I awakened from a random medical bay, dazed, and confused. Where am I? How have I gotten here? What happened? Why can't I remember anything?
"That's it. Slow and easy. Take it slow..." says a man wearing a white coat.
"Sir, norepinephrine levels are soaring to critical levels! He's going to cascade!" says a man sitting at a terminal, as alarms are blaring.
"Take it easy, the stressors of a failed mind transfer are wreaking havok.. I am going to inject you with a sedative to soothe your mind. You may feel a slight bit drowsy."
I feel a cold sensation as a fluid was injected into my arm.
"Do you know your name?"
"Well I... uhhh....-"a shocking sensation pierces my skull"-errrr my name? I remember, Zylithi.."
"Do you remember anything else?"
"Well... uhhh.... Errr... no."
I lied. I had another flashback just at that moment. A woman, screaming my name in terror, as red lights are flashing and an alarm klaxon is going off. Unsure as to the context, or whether I am in the presence of friend or foe, I decide to withold this fact.
I began to feel very drowsy.
"Well, Mr. Zylithi, I have the unfortunate duty to inform you that you are the casualty of a failed Mind Transfer. Our facility received a reanimation stream approximately 9 hours ago, but the bitstream was very incomplete."
I felt a very strong emotion at this time. Despair? I began to feel as if I were falling, when suddenly the medication kicked in and I felt very relaxed. Almost drunk.
When an Engineer dies, his helmet does a destructive scan of the engineers brain and transmits its electrical impulses to a reanimation facility. The brain does get destroyed in the process, however, this does ensure the Engineer may continue his work.
The meds kicked in further. The more my mind tried to kick and scream, the more drowsy I felt.
"What... is... girl....." I tried to summon all my strength to construct a sentence, but it failed.
I felt a bit of drool run out my mouth which was quickly going numb.
Blackness.
